Announcing Duplicati 2.3.1.0 (Beta): Sync Copy Mode & Windows Installer Improvements

This release marks an important milestone as we move closer to our next stable release. Packed with one of our most requested features - Sync Copy Mode - along with major Windows installer improvements, Microsoft 365 integration enhancements, and platform performance updates, version 2.3.1.0 brings even greater flexibility to your backup and deployment workflows.

1. Sync Copy Mode (Simple One-Way File Replication)

Where traditional Duplicati backups focus on block deduplication, compression, AES encryption, and historical versioning, Sync Copy Mode introduces a direct file-copying mechanism for fast, simple data replication.

• Direct File Replication: Replicates files directly from the source to the target backend without chunking or converting them into encrypted volumes.

• Flexible Destination Cleanup: Enable the --sync-then-delete flag to automatically prune files at the target destination that no longer exist at the source.

• Remote State Tracking: Customize how state is verified via --sync-remote-state:

  • UseRemoteState: Scans the target destination directly to determine needed uploads.

  • UseLocalState: Leverages the local SQLite database to minimize remote directory listing calls.

  • BlindlyUpload: Directly pushes source files to the target backend.

• Snapshot & Multi-Destination Support: Integrates seamlessly with Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) / LVM snapshots for safe file handling and supports replicating across multiple remote targets.

2. Windows Installer Improvements

To make deployment and upgrades smoother across desktop and server environments, version 2.3.1.0 introduces significant upgrades to the Windows installation package:

• Streamlined Setup & Service Configuration: Simplified setup flow with improved options for running Duplicati as a background Windows Service versus a user Tray Icon application.

• Enhanced Silent & Enterprise Deployment: Improved command-line switches (/qn, MSI parameters) for automated rollout via IT management tools (GPO, Intune, SCCM).

• Cleaner Upgrade Path: Automated detection and seamless migration of legacy configurations during in-place upgrades, reducing post-install manual reconfigurations.

As a Beta release, version 2.3.1.0 is intended for community testing to validate performance and catch edge cases before the upcoming stable build. While stable for testing, we recommend monitoring the backups closely.
